We fund projects that have a national and international impact.
As a Charity we work with world leading academics, researchers and scientists who are working towards the common goal of improving mental health. We fund projects that bring together the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London.
Staff from across the Maudsley and IoPPN create one of the largest concentrations of scientists and clinicians in Europe, working in mental health.
London is one of the most diverse cities on earth and we believe that research and clinical advancement can be developed and tested here, and be rolled out across the UK through the NHS, as well as internationally.
The Maudsley Charity has contributed over £1.8m to funding the Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre, a project that enables researchers to develop clinical applications from scientific breakthroughs, and translate these discoveries into new treatments for patients.
We’ve recently funded Europe’s first clinic to pilot a new psychological intervention for young adults discharged from hospital after their first episode of psychosis. Admission to hospital can be a traumatic event and the post-discharge phase represents a vulnerable period for relapse and self-harm, this initiative aims to reach those people and has a specific target around patients using cannabis.
