A major milestone has been reached in the journey towards better mental health for children and young people with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Pears Maudsley Centre.
Working collaboratively with young service users, our award-winning architects IBI Group have created a building that will be bright, welcoming and connected to nature – one that destigmatises the experience of accessing mental health services. Take a look at the flythrough video for an experience of this cutting-edge facility.
Through research excellence and world-leading clinical care we’re transforming the mental health of children and young people, in the UK and across the globe.
Together with our partners South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London we’re transforming the mental health of children and young people.
We’ve committed £10m in funding to help build the Pears Maudsley Centre – a world-leading centre for care and research in south London. This project reflects the ambition and strategy of the Charity, allowing us to make a positive impact on mental health for the next generation. But the building is just the start, we’re working with individuals and organisations to raise funds to support the ongoing research, treatment development and clinical care, that really will make a huge difference to the lives of children and young people suffering from mental illness.
Our vision
Clinicians, academics, educators, parents and crucially young people – will work together to research and improve our knowledge and understanding of the root causes of mental illness, how we can diagnose earlier, improve treatments and even prevent mental health disorders from presenting. We want to enable future generations of children to enter adulthood leading happier healthier lives.
The centre
Together we are establishing Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People, which will be home to the Institute for Children & Young People’s Mental Health at King’s College London and the Maudsley.
We will bring together the world’s leading experts in research and clinical care, with the shared vision of transforming the mental health of children and young people, in the UK and across the globe.
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London are already working together to improve child mental health, you can find out more by visiting King’s Maudsley Children.
