Xavier is an independent artist who has been supported by Bethlem Gallery and Bethlem Museum of the Mind, two projects funded by the Maudsley Charity.
As an organisation the Maudsley Charity recognises the important role that access to The Arts can play in recovery and well being, and we’re proud of our commitment to funding this area of our work.
Xavier’s story starts in 1985 when he experienced a head injury following a road traffic accident. The gradual process of having to learn to walk and talk again meant that Xavier stayed as inpatient at the Maudsley for over a year following major surgery.
Xavier has stayed connected with South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Maudsley Charity, his work has been featured in a number of projects across hospital sites. His work includes a permanent exhibition ‘Full circle’ integrated into the design of the ORTUS, home of the Maudsley Charity.
Xavier describes himself as a motivated artist, designer and maker. London born and mostly self taught, regaining life skills through creating in a post head injury in Peckham 1985.
