Are you a senior leader who is passionate about improving the lives of those affected by mental illness?
Do you want to work with an inspiring, committed and ambitious team to drive change in mental health, in South London and across the UK?
If so, then this role could be for you.
We are seeking a new Chair to lead Maudsley Charity into the next phase of our development.
If you experience mental illness, the impact for you and those around you can be devastating and lifelong. With the right care and support that doesn’t have to be the case.
Maudsley Charity works across sectors to improve mental healthcare, support recovery and prevent the development of mental illness. Our ambition is to impact the lives of those living with mental illness in South London and across the UK.
Our primary role is as a funder. We work in partnership with South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London and a range of voluntary sector partners to deliver positive change.
As Chair, you will be building on a strong foundation to position the Charity to make a bigger and more visible impact. You will hold the Board and Executive Team to account for the Charity’s mission and vision, provide inclusive leadership of the Board of Trustees and ensure the effective governance. You will offer guidance and support to the Chief Executive, model the Charity’s core values and act as an ambassador.
We are interested in candidates from a broad range of backgrounds and life experiences who demonstrate a clear passion and commitment to Maudsley Charity’s mission. You will have a track record of operating at a senior strategic level in executive or non-executive roles, and have some experience of charity governance. You will bring a clear and demonstrable commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as well as strong interpersonal, collaborative and relationship building skills. You will be a compelling advocate externally, able to work in partnership with the Chief Executive to manage key stakeholder relationships. We are looking for someone who combines good judgement with excellent strategic thinking, as well as the capacity to think creatively and offer fresh perspective.
We’d particularly like to hear from you if you have a personal connection to the challenges that mental illness presents, or have knowledge of healthcare or mental healthcare.
However, the most important requirements for the role are the skills to Chair and a passion for our cause.
We are committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion amongst the representatives who serve on the Board and for it to be representative of the communities within which it works now and in future. As such, we welcome and encourage applications from a diverse range of cultural or socio-economic backgrounds.
