In conversation: Bethany Williams and Frances Corner

An exploration of creativity and self-care with artist and fashion designer Bethany Williams, and Frances Corner, chair of Maudsley Charity.

Ortus, SE5 8SN

Join us at Ortus, home of Maudsley Charity, as our Chair Frances Corner OBE leads a conversation with Bethany Williams – artist, humanitarian and sustainable fashion designer. The talk is presented by Bethlem Gallery in association with Maudsley Charity and is free to attend.

Bethany will share insights into her work, the social and environmental mission behind it, and how her recent solo exhibition at Bethlem Gallery and current paintings and ceramics on display at Ortus explore chronic pain, recovery and the importance of nature for well-being, drawing on her connections to her home in the Isle of Man.

Professor Corner has more than 20 years’ experience in higher education leadership and as a campaigner, she has championed the role of fashion as a force for innovation and change, particularly in the areas of sustainability, health and well-being.

Natural dye workshop

Following the talk, Bethany will lead a natural dye workshop inspired by her recent series of works, in which she uses natural dyes from her home region of the Isle of Man.

In the session you will learn about the dying process, how to mordant fabrics (treating fabrics to help the dye stick), and then get stuck in creating your own appliqué works.

Reserve your free place via the Bethlem Gallery website.
